Bloomsburg University Posts Win Over Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG-- Quarterback Dan Latorre (Elysburg/Southern Columbia) threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns to lead the 10th-ranked Bloomsburg University Huskies (4-0, 1-0 PSAC East) to a 31-21 win over Kutztown University (1-3, 0-1 PSAC East) on Saturday.
Latorre connected on throws 55 and 28 yards to help the Huskies, winners of nine straight dating back to last year, rally twice in the game.
Kutztown took the early lead in the game when Matt Dineen connected on a 37-yard field goal with 1:22 left in the first period. Bloomsburg then scored on the ensuing drive when Jon Koenig (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) hit a 35-yard field goal after the Huskies drive stalled at the Golden Bear 18-yard line.
Kutztown regained the lead later in the period when Shane Martin hit Kaleb Klosky with a 15-yard scoring pass with 3:25 left in the half.
On Bloomsburg's next possession the Huskies needed just three plays to tie the score as Latorre hit Kyle Ream (Eliottsburg/West Perry) with a 55-yard pass to make it 10-10 at the half.
In the third period the Huskies took the lead for the first time in the game. Starting the Kutztown 28-yard line after a short punt and a face mask penalty, Latorre and Ream clicked on the first play of the drive on a 28-yard scoring strike for a 17-10 lead.
Kutztown cut in the Huskies lead with a 34-yard field goal on the Golden Bears next possession, but Bloomsburg responded with a seven, play, 63-yards scoring drive to extend its lead. On a second and 17-play from the Bloomsburg 45-yard line, Latorre hit connected with Derrick Price (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) on a 44-yard pass play putting the ball at the Kutztown 11-yard line. Two plays later Kenny Domzalski (Milford/Delaware Valley) scored from seven yards out for a 24-13 lead.
The Golden Bears got one more score as Martin hit Jason Uhlig on a two-yard scoring pass with 1:47 to play in the game, then added a two-point conversion pass to close to within a field goal at 24-21.
Kutztown then attempted an onside kick, following the score, but the ball was recovered by the Huskies and Bloomsburg drove in for one last score with Price going in from nine yards out with 1:16 left in the game.
Overall, Latorre was 10-15 for 210 yards, one interception and two scores. Price was held below100-yards for the first time this season as he finished with 60 yards on the ground. Defensively, Greg Myers (Philadelphia/Dobbins) had 10 tackles, six of them solo, while Earl McNeil (Lansdowne/Msgn. Bonner) had seven tackles, all solo in the game. Martin finished with 161 yards through the air for Kutztown.
Bloomsburg visits CW Post next week in a noon start.
